A new Slot Drawing System for Video Plates that Asus has implemented on its motherboards may have damaged initial models from RTX 5090. GPUS are in testing on specialized channels and reports have appeared on social networks of problems in the so-called Q -Release, implemented in the 800 series plates, both Intel and AMD.
As shown in the video below, the idea of Q-Release is to facilitate the removal of the motherboard video card. Instead of locking a lock that is often difficult to reach under the GPU, the user just needs to hold the ASUS motherboard firmly and pull their video card up.
In practice, however, it seems that the GPU often curled and does not draw as expected. Andreas Schilling, from Hardware Luxx, commented that “not happy” with Asus’s new solution, and comments that the video card is frequent in slot. The post comes accompanied by a photo that clearly shows a small malfunction in the connection of a RTX 5090.
In another case, a China channel went further and tested the mechanism 60 times in a row, which resulted in damage to the plate connector as well.
Asus says he will check the problem
A hxl post (@9550pro), famous for its hardware leaks, indicates that Asus is aware of the problem. Tony Yu, one of the company’s representatives in China, responded to a thread talking about it and said the company will contact those affected to solve.
Anyway, it is important to remember that people affected so far are hardware experts who perform numerous tests with the plate. This involves fitting and removing the GPUs several times, which increases the possibility of something going wrong.
Schilling said it is common for GPU to curl in Asus’s Q-Release, which would certainly be a hindrance to any user.
