New PHISON controller surpasses high performance SSDS in benchmark testing

PHison prepares a new controller for SSDs PCIE Gen 5.0 that can result in products with a new level of performance compared to what we see today. The component is called PS5028-E28, and Tom’s hardware people had access to results from a PCMark 10 test with the product.

Some sample SSD with Phison E28 was placed to “face” the Samsung 9100 Pro, the Micron 4600 and the GM9000 Acer Predator, which are among the fastest drives today. In terms of data bandwidth, average access time and benchmark overall score, the E28 tranquilized its competitors.

In the case of overall and band score, the higher the numbers, the better. For access time, smaller numbers indicate a better performance.

What draws attention to the Phison controller, too, is that he finally surpasses the 3,000k brand of ip for random reading and recording. These are much larger numbers than competitors, while in recording and sequential reading the difference is not so much in the test in question.

Tests show potential of Phison PS5028-E28

Tom’s hardware attests to the veracity of the test results it has obtained. However, until we have official product disclosures, or reviews themselves, it is important to maintain a little skepticism.

Still, even if the numbers prove correct, we must remember that the controller alone does not determine the final SSD performance. Micron 4600 and Acer Predator GM9000, for example, use the same controller and deliver different results.

But this can be good for Phison E28. The controller did very well in these tests before its release, so we can see the potential for even more powerful end products when the component actually makes its debut on commercial SSDs.
