The full specifications of MSI’s MEG X870E ACE MAX motherboard have been released in China. This is an intermediate card for AMD’s X870E platform positioned below the GODLIKE and offers three PCIe 5.0 expansion slots and two M.2 PCIe 5.0 slots.

It utilizes an 18+2+1 phase SPS DrMOS power design and four DDR5 UDIMM slots, with support for memory overclocking up to 8400+ MT/s.

Another feature is a Romans is the place 64 mbb.which, according to MSI, is associated with CPU upgrades of the next generations. This is an approach also used by Gigabyte on some of its X870 and B850 boards..

Storage and expansion options include one PCIe 5.0 x16 slot, one PCIe 5.0 x8 slot, one PCIe 5.0 x4 slot, two M.2 PCIe 5.0 x4 slots, three PCIe 4.0 x4 slots, and four SATA III ports. The rear I/O panel also offers two 40Gbps USB 4.0 Type-C ports.

AM5 desktop processors support up to 24 PCIe 5.0 lanes, while the configuration presented here would require at least 28 lanes. Not to mention the USB 4.0 ASM4242 controller. Therefore, the card uses PCIe line multiplexing to share bandwidth between some of the Gen5 slots and devices.

64 MB BIOS

MSI has started promoting a 64MB ROM BIOS for its MAX and EVO series of motherboards. MAX models are already available in some products, such as the MAG Tomahawk (R$ 2,559.00 at Kabum, with a B850 chipset), while EVO cards are still on the way.

In its own material, MSI associates the 64MB BIOS with “next-level” CPU upgrades. This indicates that the cards will support future processors, but does not directly mention the Ryzen 10000 series.

The novelty is not exclusive to MSI. Some Gigabyte X870 and B850 motherboards also use a larger ROM. According to Gigabyte, the extra capacity is for a “Driver BIOS” feature, which stores Wi-Fi and network drivers.

This allows the system to connect to the internet immediately without having to install drivers separately, which is useful for new Windows installations that require a Microsoft account. However, in the case of Gigabyte, only a small number of its X870 and B850 models implement this feature.

No case from MSI, the company confirmed that it is taking a similar approach. The official explanation is that MAX and EVO motherboards utilize a 64MB BIOS ROM to provide more space for firmware features, including integrated network drivers and other functions that improve ease of use.

This means that the larger ROM has two functions: store drivers as Wi-Fi or LAN and leave room for future support for AM5 CPUs. In practice, many users will still place more importance on extended support for multi-generation CPUs than on the Wi-Fi drivers stored in the BIOS.
