New lake-hx can use the same panther lake-hx BGA2540 socket

Intel should maintain the same BGA2540 encapsulation as Panther Lake-HX in the next generation of high performance mobile processors, the new Lake-HX. This means that notebook manufacturers and other compact devices can enjoy the same socket, basically, between the two families.

The information comes from another NBD leakage, the database that brings together transportation documents and often offers discoveries on unofficial components. In this case, we know that the Panther Lake-HX approach, while the New Lake-HX are expected for next year.

Unlike a PC, the end user can rarely change the processor of their notebook to an upgrade, so using the same BGA2540 between generations does not bring so many direct advantages to the consumer. But companies can save money on the transition from CPUS and, perhaps, reflect this with less aggressive price increases in their 2026 products.

It is interesting to mention that NBD leakage also mentions a 48V source, as the Tom’s hardware staff notes. Notebooks are usually between 19V and 20V at power input, so 48V may be indicative of more advanced devices.

It would not be surprised since Intel often incorporates its HX line of processor into high performance systems such as small workstations and NUC Extreme. Apparently the company already tests with the new lake-hx, which should not be restricted to this product format.

Intel seems to be keeping your roadmap

When Lip-BU Tan officially climbed the position of CEO of Intel, one of his first statements was made to reiterate the company’s plan to launch the Panther Lake in 2025 and the Nova Lake in 2026. The leak seems to indicate that the company is still in its roadmap so far.

The arrival of the Panther Lake will be one of the most important in recent years of Intel, as it will mark the debut of its 18th process. The company bets on technology not only to be ahead of competition in the processor market, but also to get more customers in the production of chips of its Foundry division.

It is worth remembering, however, that the launch and wide availability of the products is not synonymous. While Panther Lake’s official debut takes place later this year, they should reach people’s homes in early 2026. Nova Lake are scheduled for the second half of next year.
