MSI has released the specifications of its GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super Ventus 3X Black OC and, although all other models of the video card are produced with the AD103-275 GPU, this one will be different and will feature the AD102-225.
It is worth noting that this GPU numbering has never been previously mentioned by NVIDIA and could be a new replacement for the AD103 chips, considering the same specifications. In other words, even if it brings improvements, it may be a “cut” version to maintain standards with this model.
The information presented by MSI also reveals that the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super Ventus 3X Black OC will maintain the 8,448 CUDA cores and achieve the same clock speed presented by its RTX 4070 Ti Super Ventus 3X (silver edition) – which contains the AD103 GPU.
Despite having no differences in specifications, there are some small changes in its physical format. In addition to the AD102 being a little larger than the AD103 (322 x 136 x 62 mm compared to 308 x 120 x 52 mm), it also weighs more (1.4g versus 1.1g) and consumes more energy: 295W for the recent model, with the previous one consuming 285W.

The implications of MSI’s use of the AD102
It is important to mention that MSI’s GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super Ventus 3X Black OC GPU, when using the AD102 chip, deviates from the standards established by NVIDIA and video cards that follow a single format are generally sold in only certain regions. In other words, it is possible that it will not be launched on the Western market.
An image published by insider “@wnxod” also reveals that this may not be the only variant to use the GPU. A GPU-Z benchmark shows that Inno3D is also producing a similar model and confirms that there has been a change in standards to meet some requirement – whether manufacturing or just regional.
None of the models, whether from MSI or Inno3D, are for sale – meaning more information may be available later. However, when using the AD102, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super Ventus 3X Black OC now joins the only models that work with the chip: the GeForce RTX 4090 and the GeForce RTX 4090D.
