In a world in which video cards and hardware that include memory chips are increasingly rare, a few lucky enthusiasts still manage to get their hands on cutting-edge technologies: MSI RTX 5090 Lightning Z achieves record GPU frequency of 3.75 GHz!
Graphics card technical information and test results GeForce RTX 5090 Lightning Z and MSI were disclosed. The images and data demonstrate the characteristics of the record-breaking model.
O component displays a PCB design com 40 phase power system and uses two 16-pin power connectors (If one connector already causes problems, imagine two).
The unit was distributed by the manufacturer to testers specialized, such as Alva Jonathanknown as Lucky_n00bfor evaluation in extreme conditions.
A MSI GeForce RTX 5090 Lightning Z reached an operating frequency of 3.75 GHz (3742 MHz) in tests, surpassing by approximately 100 MHz the previous record, which was 3.65 GHz set by a model GALAX RTX 5090D HOF.
GDDR7 memory of the model was also raised to 36 Gbps in tests, speed considered the current maximum stable limit for this technology. The board uses a Special BIOS for extreme overclocking (XOC) with configurable power limit of up to 2500 wattsas can be seen in the tweet above.
Model is aimed at competition and not for common retail
According to the overclocker Lucky_n00bthe distributed units are of the version “OCER“, sent specifically to bigwigs in the overclocking segmentnot intended for retail sale. They are accompanied by a basic heatsink, as they will be cooled by liquid nitrogen during record sessions.
MSI is expected to officially present the final retail version of the GeForce RTX 5090 Lightning Z durante a CES 2026an event in which more details about the commercial version will be released.
