MSI promises BIOS update in August to fix 13th and 14th generation Intel

MSI was one of the first motherboard makers to promise a BIOS update for Intel models as early as August, as the companies seek to mitigate instability issues that have plagued 13th and 14th-generation Core processors.

The information came from an official statement from the brand, which intends to offer a BIOS update as soon as Intel releases its new microcode. “MSI has worked closely with Intel to understand the situation and is monitoring progress,” the company stated. “We will provide an updated BIOS to our customers and users as soon as possible after the new microcode is released in mid-August.”

There are concerns, however, about how far a BIOS update would go to fix the problem. After blaming motherboard manufacturers such as MSI for the defect, the company seemed to struggle to pinpoint a root cause for the issue.

The prediction of a new microcode in August was made in an official Intel post on Reddit. In the post, the company says the problem comes from incorrect voltage requests for the processors, but the Igor’s Lab website details other unmentioned problems that are circulating in the manufacturer’s internal documents.

Intel boards will receive updates

Regardless of whether it’s a full fix or not, a BIOS update with the new microcode should help mitigate the issue. So we can expect several Intel partners to announce updates in August, not just MSI.

It has been reported that the bug mainly affects Core i7 and Core i9 components, such as the Core i9-14900K, for example. Still, because it is not something that has been fully explained – and even because Intel has difficulty in understanding its cause – the update is recommended for all users of 13th and 14th generation Core processors.
