RTX 5080’s GDDR7 16GB capacity of GDDR7 was a disappointment for many Nvidia users, but it seems that the company has at some point to put 24GB on the board – or that it still plans in some future version. This is what indicates an unexpected listing on the MSI website.
In its list of video cards compatible with the MAG X870 Tomahawk Wifi, MSI lists RTX 5080 with 24,576MB of memory. That is, the famous 24GB. Interestingly, this is not the first time MSI commit this “error” with the capacity of 5080.
In a previous promotional video, MSI even showed a 2480 Vanguard Launch Edition with 24GB. The capacity appeared in the plate box, but the model never hit the market with some different version of the standard 16GB.
It’s unusual for a great professional brand to make the same type of error on two different occasions in this way, but the people of Videocardz speculates that it must have been just that. A large indicative of being just one slip is that there is no other version of the RTX 5080 on the compatible GPUS list, only the supposed 24GB model.
In cases like this we will probably not have an official MSI statement explaining why she mentioned a 24GB RTX 5080 on two different occasions. A speculation that appears is that Nvidia may have considered the capacity for the plate at some point.
