AMD spoke of its Dragon Range series of processors in 2022, with the appearance of some products last year. Notebooks and mini PCs made their debut with the 16-core Ryzen 9 7940HX, but a device with the Ryzen 7 7840HX had yet to appear, according to VideoCardz. MSI’s Raider Shadow solves this absence.
MSI’s new notebook uses the mid-range Dragon Range series processor, equipped with 12 cores. These are processors based on versions originally released for desktops, featuring advanced cores, but with integrated graphics that are less “powerful” than a Strix Point, for example.
The Ryzen 7 7840HX uses a Radeon 610M, still based on RDNA2. The component, however, is aimed at notebooks or mini PCs that will incorporate a dedicated graphics card, as is the case with the MSI Raider Shadow. In addition to the Dragon Range APU, the notebook features an RTX 4060 mobile.
In the rest of the specifications for the portable device, we have a 17.3” screen with 2.5K resolution and up to 240Hz refresh rate. The notebook also comes with 16GB of DDR5 memory, with space for up to 64GB. The Raider Shadow is only available in China at launch, for a suggested retail price of 7,599 yuan. This amounts to R$6,278 at the current price.
AMD would already be preparing Fire Range, the successors to Dragon Range
At the beginning of this month we had the publication of a well-produced video from Golden Pig Upgrade, a famous Asian leaker of information about AMD. In his content, the person spoke about the future of the manufacturer’s mobile processors, even mentioning refreshes for Strix Point and Krackan Point in 2026.

Furthermore, the Golden Pig video mentions the series that will succeed the Dragon Range processors. The so-called Fire Range R9 appears with a possible debut as early as next year, extending until 2026. According to unofficial information, this new generation should use Zen 5 cores, but keep the iGPU limited to the RDNA2 generation.
