More users of RTX 50 video cards by Gigabyte are reporting thermal gel problems running through the PCB of their GPUS. The company has not yet made new pronouncements, but apparently using the vertical component has been a risk.

The problem first came public in late April, when Gigabyte issued an official statement in response to the post of one of its South Korea customers. The person showed photos of thermal gel dripping on a RTX 5080 Aorus Master, and the company said the problem is only cosmetic and will not cause damage to the GPU.

In his statement Gigabyte also admitted that he applied too much thermal gel on his first waves of RTX 50, implying that we could see the problem happening again. Now, users of the TechPowerup Forum show the cases where they happened to them as well.

So far, all reports have in common the use of the vertical video card. Gigabyte said she tests her plates in all positions, but it may be better to prefer to use the GPU horizontally if possible. Especially for those who bought the most expensive options in the RTX 50 series – the RTX 5090, 5080 and 5070, which were the first to be released.

Users complain about Gigabyte’s posture

One of the new reports of the thermal gel dripping comes from a user who signs as Remekra in the TechPowerUp forum. The first post was just “confirming” that the problem happens, with photos of your board. In other answers, however, the person says that he has no intention of sending the plate to the RMA unless they really spoil, for not relying on the service he will receive.

Another user signs as Tall and apparently made their account to talk about the problem. The person reports that he used the plate for just one week, and now cares about the possibility of gel reaching other components and causing problems. “I’m still more or less new to set up my own setups and this is my first products with products,” he says in his post. “First time using Gigabyte too, and it makes me want to never have any other product from them again.”

In addition to these, vermie22 also posted images of gel dripping on his GPU, and there are more posts without photos following that they suffered from the same problem.

If other reports of the thermal gel dripping continues to emerge, the moment will come that Gigabyte will need to recalculate what gives the most damage: replacing the plates or harming your reputation more.
