Minisforum has launched a more affordable version of its 3-in-1 tablet design based on AMD hardware in China. The device comes equipped with a Ryzen 7 7735U, sharing many features with the original model.
Designed to be lower cost, the V3 SE comes with a Ryzen 7 7735U, a Rembrandt-R-based CPU with Zen 3+ cores. This 8-core CPU does not have the integrated NPU found in the 8840U model used in the non-SE tablet. This also means that the tablet has Radeon 680M graphics instead of the 780M.
Additionally, Minisforum reduced the screen specs from a resolution of 2560×1600 at 165Hz to a panel of 1920×1200 at 60Hz, which is also less bright with a maximum of 320 nits versus 500 nits. Additionally, the tablet’s memory has been reduced from 32GB to 16GB, although it still uses LPDDR5-6400.
Cost and benefit
The V3 name reflects the tablet’s versatility; it can function as a standalone tablet, a computer, and a display as it includes a V-Link connector for video input. However, as a standalone tablet, it remains relatively expensive, costing between $900 and $1,000.
This lower-spec ‘Second Edition’ significantly reduces the price. According to preliminary information, the price is expected to be around US$630 and US$655 for the version with pen and keyboard.
One issue could be a lack of driver updates, as Minisforum has not released a single software or driver update since the product launch in April 2024. However, V3 was a successful launch, showing good performance and receiving praise .
