Microsoft launches Xbox Game Bar “Compact Mode” for portable devices

Microsoft realized that the user experience with the Xbox Game Bar on portable devices could be improved and made a “Compact Mode” available – precisely to be used on these gaming hardware such as the ASUS ROG Ally, Lenovo Legion Go and several others.

Its objective is to offer a more suitable way of viewing resources on smaller screens, improving the experience and bringing with it several improvements to users.

In simple terms, Microsoft allows the Xbox Game Bar – within Windows – to record media, control music, view system performance and connect the player to the platform’s community. However, this was not at all simple on portable devices and created a major headache to get where it wanted.

Now, the public will be able to change panels just using the trigger buttons, will have easy access to their tools – such as the menu that displays recently played games or titles that are still running on the device – and more factors, similar to what we already see in the PC version itself.

At this point, Microsoft has made the Xbox Game Bar’s Compact Mode available only to Windows Insiders — to gather feedback and make adjustments before the feature is released to the general public. It’s worth noting that this stage doesn’t usually take long, although they haven’t revealed a date for when it will reach others.

Even though we don’t have our own Xbox experience on portable devices, Microsoft is paying attention to this market and is offering features to better adapt to it.

It’s important to note that through the Xbox Game Bar you can access games purchased for PC through the Microsoft Store and also titles available on Cloud Gaming – if you’re an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriber. Making it easier to use on smaller devices is a big step they’re taking towards greater support.
