The world’s largest memories – Micron, Samsung and SK Hynix – can decide to end the production of DDR4 and DDR3 modules in 2025, according to rumors. This would mark a withdrawal earlier than expected for the products, and the pressure of memories from China may be the reason for this change of plans.

While technology giants focus on the latest DDR5 generation, manufacturers such as CXMT and Fujian Jinhua managed to master DDR4 and offer modules at prices well below the market. According to Tom’s hardware, it is possible to find components from China for half price, or for such low values ​​that a new kit comes out even cheaper than a refurbishment.

Lowering the price to the point of competing under these conditions would not be profitable enough for the big three, so it is possible for companies to soon abandon the production of DDR4 and DDR3 by mid -2025, according to Digitimes. And this can cause scarcity of components.

Chinese manufacturers should not supply the market for DDR4

Despite the increasingly wide availability of DDR5 memories, DDR4 modules are still important for input PCs and other various devices. And Chinese manufacturers may not be enough to supply all market demand after Micron, Samsung and SK Hynix stop manufacturing their components.
