Meta announces Quest 3S VR headset with more affordable price

The original Meta Quest 3 launched at $499 for its most basic version with 128GB of internal storage. The Quest 3S comes in at a lower price by a $200 difference, but still promises good experiences in both augmented reality and fully immersive virtual reality.

This new virtual and augmented reality glasses from Meta comes in two versions, the most basic with 128 GB of storage US$ 299,99 and also the version with 256 GB of storage for US$ 399,99.

The original Meta Quest 3 in its 512GB version is also a highlight in this announcement, as it has received a considerable price reduction to $499.99.

You get hand tracking for natural interactions and Touch Plus controllers for precision. You get access to the full range of experiences available on Meta Horizon OS, including entertainment, fitness, gaming, productivity, social experiences, and more. And the headset gets better over time, thanks to regular software updates.

According to Mark Zuckerberg’s speech at the Meta Quest 3S announcement, one of the main reasons for the price reduction is the use of Fresnel lenses, as opposed to the Pancake lenses used in the original Quest 3, which are more expensive in general.

In terms of configurations, the Quest 3S features the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor and 8 GB of RAM.

What should prices be like in Brazil?

There is currently no forecast for the launch of the Quest 3S in the Brazilian market, but the original Quest 3 is available here on Amazon in its 128 Gb version for R$ 3.899.

It’s hard to imagine exactly how official prices in dollars will translate to reais in the Brazilian market, but if you were looking for a cheaper virtual reality headset, you might want to keep an eye on the Quest 3S.

With the arrival of the most basic models of the Quest 3 family, Meta is now discontinuing the Quest 2 and Quest Pro models.
