According to information from a report by the international portal Economic News Daily, MediaTek and NVIDIA are teaming up to create an ARM chipset competing with the Snapdragon X Elite. As much of the industry is eyeing the growth of the PC segment with AI, the companies have supposedly come together to increase competitiveness.
Artificial intelligence is the topic of the moment and MediaTek presented the Dimensity 8250 chip, an intermediate solution focused on AI and 4 nm lithography. Both NVIDIA, which is a leader in the AI ​​sector, and MediaTek are looking for growth in the coming years.
Rumors about a union between NVIDIA and MediaTek have been circulating online since last year. Now, Economic News Daily reinforces the information and even stipulates a price range for the component: US$300, which would make the chip competing with the Snapdragon X Elite a premium solution.
According to information from the Chinese portal, the NVIDIA and MediaTek chipset verification processes will begin in the fourth quarter. Mass production of the chip should take place at the beginning of 2025, if everything goes according to plan.
Unfortunately, there is no further information about the partnership between NVIDIA and Mediatek. Therefore, it will be necessary to wait for official data or reliable leaks until we know exactly what both companies are working on.
On the other hand, the Snapdragon X Elite promises to be 50% faster than Intel Meteor Lake, or at least that’s what Qualcomm claims. The X Elite has 12 cores, comparing it to an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H and Core Ultra 9 185H that equip the ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED and ASUS Zephyrus M16 notebooks, respectively.
If the MediaTek and NVIDIA solution really goes head to head with the Snapdragon X Elite, we will have strong competition in the hardware segment. It remains to be seen whether the partnership between both companies will really yield the desired results. In any case, Qualcomm’s X Elite should arrive in the second half of 2024. The mysterious solution from MediaTek and NVIDIA should only arrive in 2025.
