The startup NextSilicon this week presented details of its new product with ambitious promises of performance and efficiency. Maverick-2 is an intelligent computational accelerator (ICA) that would be capable of outperforming both NVIDIA HGX B200 GPU models and Intel Sapphire Rapids CPU models.
The information comes from NextSilicon itself, which must be taken into consideration. The company says internal benchmark results reveal that the Maverick-2 delivers up to 4 times more performance per watt at FP64 than the HGX B200. In efficiency, the ICA would be able to surpass Intel Sapphire Rapids processors by 20 times.
According to the company’s announcement, its new components would be capable of delivering up to 32.6 GUPS (Giga-Updates Per Second) at 460W, reaching 600 GFLOPS at 750W. Not only that, but the company also claims that “market-leading GPUs” cannot complete the Page Rank benchmark test, while the Maverick-2 would be able to perform “effortlessly”.
“All tests were achieved using unmodified application code, straight out of the box – without specialized programming or specific optimizations,” says the official post from NextSilicon.
Maverick-2 uses PCIe and offers two variants
The format of NextSilicon’s new ICA also draws attention, as the accelerators can be connected directly to a PCIe 5.0 port. Furthermore, the company is preparing two versions of the product.
The Maverick-2 features a single-die design with 96GB of HBM3E memory and 128MB of cache, operating at 400W. We also have the Maverick-2 OAM, which uses dual-die for 192GB of HBM3E and 256MB of cache. Power consumption rises to 750W.
