Loongson launched this week its new high-end server processor, the 3E6000, with 64 cores and 128 threads. This is one of the most powerful CPUs ever created in China, promising performance to rival the 2019 Intel Xeon 8380.
The 3E6000 has 32MB of cache, four 72-bit memories channels and its clock goes up to 2.2GHz. According to Benchmark results published by Loongson itself, the 3E6000 is 35% faster than the Xeon 8380 in the Spec CPU Integer 2017 test, while 14% behind the Floating Points test.
It is noteworthy that in the slide the component appears as LS3C6000/Q. The 3E6000 is the top line of the 3C6000 series.
That is, the new processor with 64 nuclei does not completely exceed the Ice Lake -based CPU, with 40 nuclei originally released six years ago. But what draws attention to the development of Chinese chips is not what they can deliver now, but the speed with which they advance.
CPU 3E6000 incorporates Chinese technologies
Like West rivals, Loongson has adopted a chiple design to reach high nucleus count. In the case of the specific 3E6000, the processor has a quad-chicy profile, interconnected with Coherent Link, the company’s own technology. It is something analogous to Intel Mesh, Nvidia nvlink or Infinity Fabric of AMD.
It is interesting to note that the company initially planned to launch the 3E6000 last year, which means not only that its release delayed, but also that the development of its successors is already more advanced.
New Architecture on the way
Loongson is developing a whole new architecture for the 3B6600 generation of its processors for home use. They will use LA864 core with clock up to 3GHZ, and the manufacturer promises to deliver performance near the 13th and 14th generations of Intel – Raptor Lake.

We still have no information on what the successor of the 3E6000 equipped with these new LA864 centers will be, but the potential for another performance leap is there. If LOONGSON can get closer to more recent generations to its competitors with each new release, it will not take long to deliver really prominent products.
