Choosing a monitor for gaming is a difficult decision, and it’s an even bigger problem for notebooks, where ultrawide models are rare and often huge. After all, in the case of notebooks, it is not possible to choose the computer and the monitor separately.
For monitors, the issue is simpler. A standard 16:9 monitor takes up little desk space, or a larger 21:9 or even 32:9 ultrawide monitor takes up more space but also shows more of the game.
Thinking about how to solve the problem, Lenovo brought a new concept to CES, the Lenovo Legion Pro Rollable, which seeks to offer the best of both worlds.

Three in one

When closed or opened for the first time, the Legion Pro Rollable looks like any other gaming notebook. It’s a little thick, with RGB keys and a full number pad, but other than that, it doesn’t stand out. And it also has a standard 16:9 aspect ratio.
However, at the touch of a button, it expands to an ultrawide 21:9 screen. While it’s not as sophisticated as the 32:9 screens used by more demanding gamers, you can expand it further to a 24:9 screen if you wish.
This functionality is possible thanks to a rollable OLED panel, something that Lenovo has demonstrated and even launched previously, but for notebooks that extend vertically and are not aimed at games. The transformation is quick and silent, and Windows doesn’t even need time to adjust to the new aspect ratio.
The sensation is like unrolling parchment.
All options
In total, there are three options. The screen can range from 16 inches in 16:9 mode, called Focus, to 21 inches in 21:9 mode, called Tactical. Finally, there is also a third variation for 24 inches in 24:9 mode, called Arena.
However, it is worth noting that the screen aspect ratio numbers do not always correspond exactly to the screen space measurements.
The change is significant, and not just for gamers. During a trip, where there is limited space in the suitcase to carry a second monitor, being able to switch to ultrawide mode helps solve the difficulty. When saving, simply reduce the screen size to a more standard format.
