LEGO Horizon Adventuresthe newest game published by Sony, recorded a disappointing performance upon its launch on Steam.

According to SteamDB data, the title achieved a peak of just 602 simultaneous playersmaking it Sony’s worst release on the platform to date. To contextualize the performance of LEGO Horizon Adventures on Steam, it is relevant to compare it with other Sony titles released on the platform.

Comparison with other titles at launch

For example, God of War reached a peak of 73,529 concurrent players at its launch, while Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered reached 66,436 players. In contrast, Sackboy: A Big Adventure only recorded 610 concurrent players at its launch, the previous record being negative. These numbers highlight the significant discrepancy in player engagement between different Sony titles on Steam.

The low adoption is surprising, especially considering that the Horizon franchise usually has a good reception on PC. Unlike Sackboy, which was a delayed port, LEGO Horizon Adventures is an unprecedented release, which adds to the disappointment even more. Furthermore, the title is the fourth game in the LEGO series with the fewest concurrent players registered on Steam, out of a list of 24 games.

Also available for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch, the game’s poor performance on Steam calls into question Sony’s strategy for multiplatform titles. Factors such as a possibly insufficient marketing campaign, direct competition with other recent major releases, and a target audience less attracted to Horizon’s mix of LEGO aesthetics may have contributed to this poor performance.

The company expected a more expressive launch, but the low number of players on Valve’s platform suggests that the title’s appeal was lower than anticipated.

About LEGO Horizon Adventures

LEGO Horizon Adventures invites players to join machine hunter Aloy and her companions on a quest to save the world and unlock the secrets of its past.

The game features interesting mechanics, such as the fusion between open-world exploration and creative construction of LEGO machines, as well as dynamic combat elements, which stand out for integrating the typical action of the Horizon series with the relaxed and humorous style of LEGO games. .

The possibility of customizing buildings and solving puzzles using LEGO bricks also adds a different layer compared to other titles in the franchise. Even so, the title failed to attract fans like other releases in the franchise.

With the weekend approaching, there is still hope that the numbers could improve, but expectations have already been drastically reduced. Sony is now hoping that interest in the game will increase and attract more players, although the difficult start suggests that the path to promoting this title will be very challenging.
