Instagram has announced an exciting new feature that is sure to bring back a wave of nostalgia for those who used Myspace in the early 2000s. Starting today, Instagram users will be able to add a song to their profile, a feature that is reminiscent of the iconic personalization that Myspace offered.

But unlike its predecessor, the music won’t automatically play when someone visits the profile, allowing visitors to choose whether or not they want to listen to the selected track.

Music chosen on Instagram profile

With this new feature, users can add a song to the bio area of their profile. The song will remain prominent until the user decides to remove or replace it.

The process of adding a song is simple: just go to the “edit profile” page, where you can search and select a track from Instagram’s library of licensed music.

This same library is now available for use in Reels and posts. Additionally, users can choose a 30-second snippet of the song to add to their profile, ensuring that their favorite part of the song is the one that viewers will hear.

Collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter

To mark the launch of this new feature, Instagram has partnered with pop star Sabrina Carpenter. Carpenter, whose hit “Espresso” dominated the charts over the summer, will be the first to use the music feature on her profile to promote her new single.

Starting today, the singer’s official Instagram profile will feature a preview of “Taste,” a previously unreleased song set to be officially released next Friday as part of her new album. This preview will be exclusive to Instagram, making the music feature on the profile the only way to hear the track before its full release.

In addition to the new music feature, Instagram is introducing a few hidden features in honor of Carpenter’s new album, Short n’ Sweet.

For example, using certain keywords like “Sabrina” or the coffee cup emoji in temporary Notes messages will cause those messages to appear in a special light blue color.

A custom chat theme was also created with Carpenter’s branding, which includes lipstick kiss icons, adding a fun and personalized touch for the singer’s fans.
