A possible significant change in control of the Nintendo Switch 2 may be in progress, according to recent rumors released by the leaker NextHandheld. The new generation of Joy Con must include joysticks with Hall Effect technologywhich eliminates one of the biggest problems with the previous model’s controls: drift.

This recurring glitch, which causes ghostly movements in the game, has generated numerous complaints and even lawsuits against Nintendo since the launch of the original Switch.

Hall Effect joysticks use magnetic sensors to register movements, eliminating physical contact between internal components.

This technology reduces mechanical wear and increases the durability of the controls, making them immune to drift. In fact, the solution is already well known on the market, but especially from third-party accessories.

Nintendo could be the first to implement Hall Effect by default

If Nintendo actually confirms the feature, the Nintendo Switch 2 will be the first console from the three major manufacturers on the market that uses Hall Effect technology out of the box.

While Nintendo has not officially confirmed the adoption of this technology in the Nintendo’s Joy-Cons, Switch 2, NextHandheld highlighted on social media that he discovered the presence of the feature during a teardown of the new controls.

Since 2017, Joy-Con drift has been a headache for Nintendo, leading the company to admit the problem publicly.

Rumors about the use of Hall Effect in the new Joy-Cons emerged in 2023, but gained strength after the official announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2 in January 2025.

Although Nintendo has not provided exact dates, the console is expected to hit the market from June 2025. If the rumors are confirmed, the adoption of Hall Effect joysticks on the Switch 2 could represent an important change for the reliability of the controls and perhaps influence other manufacturers to adopt similar solutions.
