Intel is preparing a new series of Xeon processors, currently known by the codename Granite Rapids-WS, for workstations. The processors will use boards with the W890 chipset, and now a new leak reveals some details of what to expect from these components.
Famous “leaker” momomo_us posted what he says is the W890 diagram, which reveals a lot of information about the chipset. To begin with, the new boards will support Xeon Granite Rapids CPUs of up to 350W, on the LGA-4710 socket. The processors may be accompanied by DDR5 RDIMM memories, with a total of up to 2TB.
Moving on to PCIe, the diagram indicates 96 lanes for generation 5.0 and 16 for generation 4.0, for a total of 112 PCIe lanes. According to Guru3D, the image indicates an “Expert” variant of a W890 card, as previous rumors indicate that “Mainstream” models will offer a total of just 80 PCIe lanes, all of which are 5.0.
The new Intel boards should also feature extensive USB and drive connection options. There are up to 10 links for USB 3.2, accompanied by 9 for USB 2.0/1.1. Other connections include 8 SATA III ports, 2 SlimSAS and an Intel I226-V controller for 2.5Gb Ethernet.
W890 shouldn’t be far from launch
The image also indicates the presence of a 24-pin ATX connector to provide power to this W890 board model. Since it supports processors up to 350W, we have a total of 4 8-pin ATX12V plugs as well.
This type of leak could be an indication that it’s not long before the launch of Intel’s new Xeon line. It is possible that we will soon have some confirmation of this information, revealing the Granite Rapids-WS motherboard and CPU options that will be available at the premiere.
