AMD may be facing problems launching its Radeon RX 9070 XT and non-XT series due to the prices it expected to charge for the GPUs. The information is unofficial and comes from sources that are difficult to confirm, but with a history of success in this type of rumors and rumours.
The subject began to circulate in a post by Pokerclock, moderator on the PC Games Hardware forum. This is a person who has already shown some knowledge in circles of retailers and hardware partners, with privileged information about the RTX 50. Now, the person comments on the next generation of AMD GPUs.
According to Pokerclock, AMD expected to charge more for the Radeon RX 9070 XT and non-XT, but is now seeking a price adjustment due to the official values of NVIDIA cards.
“Apparently, there is no agreement (between AMD and resellers) on the price at which these graphics cards should be sold, because the originally planned price range appears to be too high compared to the competition with NVIDIA.”, says Pokerclock, in its post. “The problem is that price corrections for products that have already shipped can be difficult at times.”
AMD would be negotiating adjustments to the Radeon RX 9070
Rumors claim that AMD would have difficulty reaching an agreement with its partners to readjust the price of the Radeon RX 9070 series. This is because the stores have already received the products and, to sell them cheaper, they need to be compensated in some way by AMD.
Typically this takes the form of investments for marketing and cashback payments on future purchases for more stock. However, according to rumors, the amount of cashback that AMD would have to offer does not seem viable for the company. Furthermore, rumors are circulating among retailers that the company already owes returns on other launches to some stores, reducing its negotiating power.
