Infamous tariffs from the US government have caused a commotion in all industry segments, but especially in electronics companies. Now we have rumors that Saudi Arabia is trying to take the moment to attract the three largest PC manufacturers in the world to its territory.

The information says that Dell, Lenovo and HP, the three largest PC automakers (OEMs) in the world, are looking for alternatives to their facilities in China, the country facing the hardest tariffs from Trump’s US US. It is taking advantage of the evasion of this territory that the Middle East country would be managing to attract companies.

The information reports that each of them is already in different stages of expansion in Arabia. Lenovo would be the most advanced, and has officially declared that it will build a PC assembly factory and servers in Ryadh, the country’s capital city. It receives an investment of $ 2 billion in incentives from the local government.

Dell and HP would be even more distant phases, just sending representatives to ascertain possible construction points and to negotiate in person with the Arab authorities.

Escaping from tariffs is not the only attraction for OEMs

Until the moment we write this post, Saudi Arabia is subject to US import tariffs around 10%, while the number for China already reaches 245%. That would be enough for many manufacturers to “run away” from there, but it’s not the only reason.

Saudi Arabia is taking advantage of the time to attract companies from outside, investing heavily in subsidies for this. An incentive fund called PIF (Public Investment Fund) was created that reaches a total of $ 620 billion to offer interested OEMs.
