In the age of smartphones and ever-evolving technology, few people fondly remember the old cell phones that marked generations. However, for Wences Palau Fernandez, these devices are more than just relics of the past; they are a passion that he has cultivated with dedication for decades.

Based in Barcelona, ​​Spain, Wences is not only a devoted Nokia fan, but also the owner of the largest collection of cell phones in the world, with an incredible 3,615 unique models in his possession.

Humble beginnings, a gigantic collection

Wences’ journey into mobile phone collecting began in a modest way, with a Christmas gift in 1999: a grey Nokia 3210. This simple gesture was the starting point for what would become one of the most impressive collections in the world.

In 2008, he began collecting seriously, with the goal of acquiring all the Nokia models he had previously been unable to afford. Over time, his collection grew to the point that it outgrew its original display space, taking up an entire room in his home.

Wences’ dedication was rewarded this year when he surpassed the previous record for the world’s largest cell phone collection, held by Andrei Bilbie Argentis of Romania, with 3,456 models, achieved in 2023.

Today, with 3,615 unique models, Wences holds the official title and continues to expand his collection, which now includes not only Nokia phones, but also other iconic brands such as Siemens, NEC, Motorola, Blackberry, Samsung, HTC and Apple.

Exhibition features rare models

Among the treasures in Wences’ collection are rare models and limited editions. One of the highlights is his collection of the Nokia 3220, based on the film “Star Wars: Episode III”, which includes the Yoda, Starfighter, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Cyborg and Padawan versions.

“My current collection is the result of much perseverance and financial effort, if you are a collector you will know well what I mean.” He revealed.

Although his collection is a work in progress, Wences has decided to share his passion with the world through his website, Nokia Project Dream. He explains that collecting all the models manufactured by Nokia is not an easy task, but that he already considers his collection a museum in development. For him, the collection is more than a hobby; it is a life project that requires constant dedication.

“Collecting every single device that Nokia has ever manufactured is no easy task, but considering that Nokia has only launched a little over 1,000 phones, having over 700 different models in the collection, along with the objects and accessories that I currently have, I believe that it can already be considered a museum and that is why I did not wait a few more years until it was finished to present it.”
