A BIOS update indicates that AMD is finally preparing to launch desktop versions of APUs based on Zen 5, for the AM5 platform. The information is not yet official, but it appears in the leak of a document with the supposedly compatible components in the AGESA 1.2.7.0 update.
As shown in the screenshot below, ComboAM5PI 1.2.7.0 line, which indicates the latest version of AGESA, denotes a new “xxxx CPU”, with microcode 00B60Fx. This is the microcode for the Krackan Point series of processors, both its first and second versions, indicating that these products will gain a new variant for the AM5 socket on desktops.

AM5-based boards preparing to receive new APUs Krackan Point is an indication that the launch of the processors should not be far away, but we don’t have official information yet. In March of this year, a leak appeared indicating that we would see these new APUs at the end of this year.

Will Krackan Point APUs become Ryzen 9000G?
The Krackan Point series of APUs was introduced earlier this year, featuring the new entry-level Ryzen AI 7 350 and AI 5 340 processors, with 8 and 6 cores, respectively. A few months later we had the debut of the Krackan Point 2, in the form of the Ryzen AI 5 330, a new option with just 4 cores.

Therefore, we can expect entry-level models at the debut of the first APUs based on Zen 5 for the desktop platform. However, the issue of nomenclature still draws attention.
The previous generation of desktop versions of APUs, based on Zen 4, uses the commercial name Ryzen 8000G, so it is expected that the new generation will arrive with Ryzen 9000G models.

However, we had another rumor indicating that the Ryzen 9000G could actually be a refresh of the already available 8000G, contradicting a possible use of Zen 5 in the APUs. One possibility to align the different leaks would be the use of Zen 5-based Krackan Point in the entry-level Ryzen 9000G, while models with a higher core count would be a refresh of the previous generation – but this is speculation.
