Kioxia this week published a corporate text talking about its strategies for the future in the medium and long term, with emphasis on its development of memories for AI accelerators. The part that most draws attention in the post is that the company intends to create an SSD with impressive 10 million IOPs, and the first samples should arrive next year.
The IOPS unit refers to the random performance of the SSD, different from the sequential that is usually average in GB/s. Kioxia says its “Super High Iops SSD” will open new markets and achieve increasing demand for AI devices performance.

“We are going to get our ultra-day XL-Flash memory chips, which use Single-Level (SLC) cells, and seem to them with a completely new controller,” said a company representative. Unfortunately, Kioxia does not reveal in its text that this controller is. But the XL-Flash chips appeared in recent news.
Kioxia xl-flash offers very low latency
The XL-Flash components that will be used in SSD of 10 million IOPs were first conceived as an alternative to Intel’s Optane memories. During Computex 2025, Innogrit showed a conceptual drive using this Kioxia technology and its own controller, the IG5669 Tacoma.

This conceptual drive reached 3.5 million IOPs – something already above the current average for SSDs – and ultrabaix latency. Kioxia, however, will probably use another controller to create your drive with some more advanced random performance.
New SSD will have first samples in 2026
As mentioned earlier, Kioxia intends to deliver the first samples of its SSD with high IOP counts in the second half of 2026.
Obviously, this does not mean a commercial availability of the product. This will be the step where potential customers of the company evaluate the quality and viability of the new Drive. In any case, the first commercial units of Super High Iops SSD will be focused on professional use.

To advance the creation of this and other technologies, Kioxia announced that it intends to maintain an investment of 8 to 9% of its annulment income in the area of Research and Development (R&D). In addition, the company has promised to hire about 700 new employees a year for R&D and production areas.
