This week, Banco Inter launched Vigilante Mode, a new App function to protect against scams and improper access. The tool automatically blocks access to card settings, investments and loans when your smartphone is not connected to reliable Wi-Fi networks.
Furthermore, transactions via Pix above the limit defined by the user require facial recognition for approval. The new feature reaches phones running Android 14.5 or iOS 14.3 systems, as well as later versions.
The security measure against Wi-Fi networks arrives at Inter following a trend adopted by other financial institutions, such as Nubank, which launched Modo Rua in 2022. Itaú announced last week that it is also adopting the function. The objective is to offer protection adapted to customers’ digital behavior to prevent fraud with unauthorized access.
How does Watchful Mode work?
When the cell phone is not connected to a Wi-Fi network registered as trustworthy, the Inter bank app automatically blocks access to sensitive areas, such as credit card settings, investment products and loans.
The system automatically detects network connection and adjusts permissions in real time, without the need for manual intervention. The adjustment is offered on the “Register a Wi-Fi network” screen, where nearby networks are listed. The client decides which functionalities are restricted when outside these connections.

Customizable configuration
The new Vigilante Mode also allows you to set specific limits for transactions via Pix. Inter’s head of technology, Guilherme Ximenes, highlighted in a press release that the tool seeks “intelligent and personalized protection mechanisms, which evolve along with customers’ digital behavior”.
To activate or change settings, facial recognition must be performed, to ensure that only the owner has control over the resource.
Inter also offers other security measures, such as i-Safe, which identifies suspicious transactions and sends alerts and authentication via WhatsApp for secure login.
