With a focus on higher performance and lower power consumption, Intel launches Xeon 6 CPUs with five SKUs equipped with performance cores, ranging from 72 to 128 cores, all with 3.9 GHz boost and over 400 MB of L3 cache. All this reflects in TDP of more than 400W.

According to Intel, the Xeon 6 “Granite Rapids” delivers twice the performance compared to the previous generation. This generation has more cores and more AI processing capacity per core. All of this is aimed at data centers focused on AI and the cloud.

The company claims that its new processors deliver up to 5.5 times more performance in Artificial Intelligence compared to AMD Epyc and 2.1 times more performance over AMD rivals.

Regarding the fifth generation of Intel Xeon, there is a big gain in performance in tasks involving raw processing, web and data, HPC and AI with the Xeon 6 and its performance cores.

Even with a considerable increase in TDP, the new Granite Rapids CPUs are almost twice as efficient, delivering performance per watt “significantly advantageous“. This comparison was made between a Xeon 6980P and Xeon 8592, which has half the cores of the new SKU. And speaking of which, take a look at the lineup:

Lineup Intel Xeon 6 P-cores

CPU Performance cores Clock base Boost/All Cores Maximum Boost Cache L3 TDP
Xeon 6980P 128 2,0 GHz 3,2 GHz 3,9 GHz 504 MB 500W
Xeon 6979P 120 2,1 GHz 3,2 GHz 3,9 GHz 504 MB 500W
Xeon 6972P 96 2,4 GHz 3,5 GHz 3,9 GHz 480 MB 500W
Xeon 6952P 96 2,1 GHz 3,2 GHz 3,9 GHz 480 MB 400W
Xeon 6960P 72 2,7 GHz 3,8 GHz 3,9 GHz 432 MB 500W

Xeon 6 processors support DDR5-6400 and MRDIMM memory at 8,800 MT/s and up to 96 PCIe 5.0 lanes.

Demand for AI is driving a massive transformation in the data center, and the industry is calling for choice in hardware, software and developer tools”, highlighted Justin Hotard, Intel executive vice president and general manager of the Data Center and Artificial Intelligence Group.

Intel has also partnered with leading OEMs, including Dell Technologies, Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Supermicro, to develop co-engineered systems tailored to specific customer needs for effective AI deployments.

In addition to the Xeon 6 processors with performance cores, Intel also launched the Gaudi 3 AI accelerator.
