An Intel representative confirmed in a recent interview that the company has no plans to make a Core Ultra with a special cache for games. In other words, the company does not intend to launch its own version of 3D V-Cache for the home PC anytime soon. Instead, the executive confirmed that they are working on a new Xeon with more memory.

The information was released in an interview by the famous hardware enthusiast channel Der8auer, accompanied by Bens Hardware. They spoke with Florian Maislinger, communications executive for Intel technologies. Asked about the subject of 3D V-Cache, he responded:

“AMD CPUs are made for a very specific group, and that group is gamers. We are aware that this technology can offer a lot to players, but it also comes with trade-offs and certain disadvantages and compromises that the user needs to accept. In this case, it’s ok if I have an X3D CPU, which may not be as strong in applications. This is intentional, and technologically, we still have things under control.”

The Intel representative highlighted that the company’s market is quite broad, with many users who are not gamers. That’s why he adds that a Xeon with a large cache could arrive soon.

Intel plans bigger cache for servers, not games

Still in his statement, Maislinger commented that, next year, “there will be a CPU that has a cache tile, but not for desktops”. The executive explains that the server market is different, and that there would be a broader scope to achieve with a product like this than desktop CPUs.

As we know, Intel’s processors aimed at servers are Xeon, so the executive points to a product like this with a large cache.

Finally, HardwareLuxx reminds us that, while a direct response to the Ryzen X3D is not yet in the plans, it seems to have at least been thought of at some point. This is because a joke and software updates even mentioned a Last Level Cache (L4) some time ago.
