With more negative cases regarding Raptor Lake CPUs emerging, Intel has spoken out on the matter. The company blame the high operating voltage in their products as the cause of instabilities and ensures that a microcode update is on the way.

Intel says it reached its current verdict after “detailed analysis” with the defective Raptor Lake (13th and 14th generation) processors they received. The “high operating voltage” is the cause of the problems we have already shown here several times.

Based on detailed analysis of 13th/14th Gen Intel Core desktop processors returned to us due to instability issues, we have determined that high operating voltage is causing instability issues on some processors.

Intel improvements will still take weeks to arrive

Our analysis of the returned processors confirms that the elevated operating voltage is due to a microcode algorithm that results in incorrect voltage requests to the processor.“, adds Intel.

This microcode update for Raptor Lake processors is scheduled for mid-August, meaning it should still take about three weeks, a long time to fix a serious problem that has been reported for months.

After this official statement, Intel added on Reddit saying that certain 13th generation SKUs were impacted by an oxidation issue in initial manufacturing, something that has already been fixed in 2023, according to the company.

She further states “only a small portion of the reports of instability problems can be linked to this manufacturing flaw“, indicating that 14th generation Intel Core processors were not affected by this oxidation, even though they present problems similar to those that arose in the previous generation.

Intel is committed to resolving the issue with our customers and we continue to urge any customers experiencing instability issues with their 13th/14th Gen Intel Core desktop processors to contact Intel Customer Support for further assistance.

Even without mentioning which models were most affected, there are indications that the Core i7 and i9 Raptor Lake (and Refresh) series are the ones that present the most problems.
