Intel would be preparing to send 15% to 20% of its employees in the chip manufacturing segment – that is, its Foundry division. The information has not yet been officially disclosed, but a company spokesman spoke of the matter and did not deny the rumor.
The leak comes from an alleged internal email of the company, sent to The Oregonian newspaper by one of its sources. The text would be signed by Naga ChandraSekaran, who came from Micron last year to be one of the leaders in the Intel Foundry division.
“These are difficult but essential actions to achieve our feasibility challenges and the company’s current financial position,” ChandraSekaran would have written in the email. “This causes pain in each of the individuals.”
Also according to information from the newspaper, Intel would be planning great cuts in other segments either, but did not disclose specifically which, nor did he speak of numbers for these cases.
Intel does not denied the possibility of layoffs
An Intel spokesman talked about it with the CRN website, which also reported about the layoffs. In an official statement, the company does not confirm the layoffs and does not speak of numbers, but does not say that the rumor is wrong. In fact, it implies that the cuts are quite likely.
“Removing organizational complexity and strengthening our engineers will allow us to better serve our customers’ needs and strengthen our execution,” says Intel in his statement. “We are making these decisions based on careful consideration of what is needed to position our business for the future, and we will treat people with care and respect, as we complete this important work.”
Company has been following cuts for months
Intel has not been operating for a while with the package of the world’s largest CPUS company in the world one day. A performance below expected in recent years has caused the departure of Pat Gelsinger, his former CEO, who was succeeded by Lip Bu-Tan.
