Intel has released the first version of “AI Playground,” an AI-powered imaging software that harnesses the power of Arc GPUs. The Windows-based app is free and open source, allowing users to customize the experience and experiment with different models to suit their needs.
It is described as an app for beginners, with several automated functions to generate texts and images through AI in a simpler and more flexible way. Users who are already accustomed to using it can also customize the settings, enabling more possibilities within the system.
In terms of hardware, to run Intel AI Playground you will need a dedicated Arc GPU with at least 8GB of VRAM. Support for Core Ultra “H” processors with integrated Arc graphics will be added later, listed as “coming soon” by the manufacturer.
The software is already compatible with models such as Stable Diffusion 1.5 and SDXL for generative artificial intelligence, but you can download others to test and find something that best fits what you are looking for.
Additionally, Intel’s AI Playground already comes with a few generative AIs included in the package, such as Automatic1111 and LM Studio. All of these will run locally, as will chatbot functionality to answer questions and summarize documents – similar to what we see in Microsoft’s Copilot features, for example.

Using the Intel AI Playground
Users can head directly to Intel’s website to download AI Playground, which uses 700MB of storage but could grow larger with the addition of supported models and future updates.
While it has been confirmed that we will see support for Intel Core Ultra “H” CPUs from the Meteor Lake line, no date has been announced for its availability. It is assumed that it will also be compatible with the Core Ultra 200V line and Arc Battlemage GPUs, but nothing has been confirmed by the manufacturer at this time.
