The second generation of Intel Core Ultra (Arrow Lake-S) desktop CPUs does not yet have a release date. However, benchmarks from a qualification sample of the Core Ultra 9 285K, running at 250w, shows that the processor will be up to 17% better than the i9-14900KIntel’s current top-of-the-line processor for desktop PCs.

Tests carried out on different benchmarks show that the Arrow Lake desktop CPU is, on average, 4.32% better than the top-of-the-line Raptor Lake. In Cinebench R23, for example, this example, which is the closest to the final model, achieved more than 43 thousand points. The tweet below shows the evolution over the previously leaked engineering sample.

Intel Core Ultra 9 285K vs AMD Ryzen 9 9950X

This score would be enough to put the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K about 1,100 points ahead of the Ryzen 9 9950X, based on the tests that AMD itself had already revealed. But, with the Zen 5 processor operating at 230w, its advantage is even greater, reaching almost 3,000 points more than the Intel CPU.

It is worth noting that, with the Ryzen 9 9950X at 160w, the difference to the Arrow Lake processor operating with 90w higher consumption would drop to less than a thousand. This is even something AMD addressed in the reveal of the Zen 5 desktop processors.

Of course, we’re talking about unofficial data. Among the scores in the image below involving processors that haven’t been released yet, the only official one is AMD’s own CPU benchmark, which it revealed at a recent event.

According to a recent leak, Intel is reportedly preparing 19 SKUs for the Arrow Lake Core Ultra 200 series for desktop PCs. The Core Ultra 9 285K covered here would be the top-of-the-line model equipped with 24 cores and 24 threads, as hyper threading was left out with Meteor Lake (mobile).

This processor would also be equipped with 4 Xe-Cores in the integrated Arc graphics, possibly using the second generation Battlemage. The base TDP of this SKU would be 125w. The 250w achieved in the leaked test must refer to a maximum power profile, such as PL2, for example.

The Intel Core Ultra 200 Arrow Lake processors are expected in October this year and they will be the direct rivals of the AMD Ryzen 9000, which arrive later this month, more specifically on July 31st.
