A Intel announced the beginning of the discontinuation process for several 12th generation CPUs, known as Alder Lakeaimed at mobile devices. The measure was formalized through a Product Discontinuance Notice (PDN), which details the schedule for the end of commercialization of these models.
The processors included in this change cover the series Core i3, i5, i7 e i9in addition to models Pentium Gold e Celeron. The affected variants belong to the lines U, P, H e HKmainly used in laptops.
However, other lines, such as HX and the desktop variants of the series Kremain outside this list, as well as processors Alder Lake-Nwhich remain available.
Retirement Schedule – Intel Core Alder Lake (mobile)
According to the statement, the process will follow a staggered schedule:
- January 6, 2025: official start of the discontinuation program.
- April 25, 2025: Deadline for placing orders. From that date, orders become irrevocable and non-refundable.
- October 24, 2025: last date of shipment of processors.
- January 23, 2026: official end of life (EOL) date.
Intel justified the discontinuation by the drop in demand for CPUs Alder Lake in the mobile device market, especially after the introduction of newer architectures such as Raptor Lake, Lunar Lake e Arrow Lake.
These new generations offer greater efficiency and performance, making the 12th generation less relevant.
Despite this, some variants, such as processors Alder Lake-Nstill have good acceptance and can remain on the market for longer, depending on demand.
Impact for consumers and manufacturers
For end consumers, the change means that laptops launched with these processors will not receive new units after EOL.
For manufacturers, the deadline set until April 2025 is an opportunity to adjust inventories and plan transitions to the latest lines.
Intel reinforces that all purchases made before the final dates must be planned carefully, as there will be no possibility of cancellation or return after the stipulated deadline.
