An old Optim 2 26 Electric Writer Machine has come to a new life. Despite being unrecoverable and without several internal pieces, an inventive Reddit user, Maniek-86, has managed to turn it into a functional gamer PC.

Projects like this require efficient use of space, mainly because old devices have not been designed for modern components. The reasons are obvious. According to the Creator, Optima SP 26 had little internal space available, making the process particularly challenging.

The user’s initiative relates to the efforts of other users seeking to make doom (original) run on various platforms, such as a Word document. Clearly, the settings used for this machine are hardly able to run the latest titles as Doom: The Dark Ages.

Instead of using state -of -the -art hardware, the user reused spare parts to bring PC to life:

• Motherboard: MSI H110M Pro-D (LGA1151, chipset H110)
• Processor: Intel Core i5-6600
• RAM: 4GB DDR4

• Video card: GeForce GT 635 (Kepler, 12 years old)

The GPU has been connected via a PCIE Riser, as the motherboard has a “absent” PCIE PCIE Slot, which may indicate some structural problem.

The Optima SP 26 keyboard was adapted with an Arduino Microcontroller plate Leonardoallowing the entrance to be remained for a standard US layout, although the original keyboard is Polish.

Despite the limitations of GeForce GT 635, the PC can run some less demanding titles such as:

Other modern titles can be playable if configured at lower resolutions. In addition to games, this transformed typewriter can be used for everyday tasks such as web browsing, social networks and document creation at Microsoft Word and Excel spreadsheets.
