With the advancement of AI tools, more solutions are beginning to appear with the ability to bring a closer competition with the popular ChatGPT. Two of these solutions have just gained native desktop applications, which puts them even closer to the OpenAI tool: Claude and Perplexity.
The arrival of applications with native desktop versions makes it easier to use the tools, in addition to improving and expanding the user experience on different platforms, bringing competition to both Windows and Mac.

For starters, Anthropic has already released its Claude chatbot in a desktop app, bringing a more streamlined and straightforward experience for both Mac and Windows users.
Claude is an AI designed to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and to this end it brings specific strengths, especially in tasks related to software development. The application, which is in beta phase, is free to download, but Anthropic charges for more advanced features, focused mainly on users who need more robustness and processing capacity.
Unlike OpenAI, which released its ChatGPT app first for Mac and only later brought a Windows version, Anthropic decided to launch both apps simultaneously.
This is a good strategy, as it ends up being more comprehensive and can focus on serving a much larger user base right from the start. But, there is still a catch in this case, as both Claude applications are based on Electron, a platform that does not always offer the ideal performance that many desktop users expect.
Perplexity also brings AI search to Mac versions
Perplexity is also increasingly becoming a strong competitor for ChatGPT. In the beginning, because it was focused on quick queries, it was put a little aside in this race, but now it is able to move forward with the launch of its native app for the Mac, which happened a few days ago.
Perplexity’s new app brings practical features, including a keyboard shortcut that allows users to ask questions directly from the desktop, making interaction more efficient and fluid.
In addition to enabling detailed conversations about search results, the application is free to download, but as with its competitors, it offers a subscription option so that more frequent users can access additional features.
ChatGPT brings updates and expansion to Windows desktop app
And, to maintain its leadership, ChatGPT continues to advance, this time finally bringing a native desktop application version to Windows, some time after having only released the Mac version.
The company’s justification at the time was that the majority of its users were Mac users, and so that’s where that focus was, but now OpenAI now offers its chatbot to a broader user base.
The company has also brought a new advanced voice feature to the Mac app, increasing the versatility of ChatGPT. But it’s worth noting that the SearchGPT search feature isn’t yet available on the desktop version, so there’s still a way to go.
