A Xiaomi announced the HyperOS in 2023 as a system that replaces the MIUI 14 interface. In less than a year, rumors have emerged that HyperOS 2.0 is already being developed. One of the features expected in the new version is a function that detects hidden cameras in the environment.
This feature is relevant because there are many cases of people finding hidden cameras in hotel rooms, properties rented through Airbnb, waiting rooms and even in public bathrooms.

Camera Scan is the name of the new feature
According to the XiaomiTimeHyperOS 2.0 will include a tool called Camera Scan that “detects hidden cameras to protect your privacy and personal security.”
It’s not yet known exactly how the feature will work. It appears that the user will need to open the tool and use the phone’s camera to scan the location. After the scan, the tool will indicate whether it has detected any cameras.
It may try to identify infrared light signals emitted by hidden cameras. Additionally, the feature may analyze the local Wi-Fi network to find connected devices that could be cameras or microphones.
We’ll only know if the feature is effective after testing. If the rumors are true, Camera Scan will be available in HyperOS 2.0, which is expected to be officially released in October 2024. The first version of HyperOS was released in October 2023.
The new version will likely be based on Android 15, but phones that do not support this version may receive an adaptation of HyperOS 2.0 based on Android 14.
However, there is still no information on which Xiaomi smartphones will receive HyperOS 2.0, nor whether the hidden camera detection function will be made available globally.
