Foldable smartphones are becoming more and more of a trend in the market, and so the evolution of this type of technology is just around the corner. A major innovation in this segment should be the Huawei Mate XT, a smartphone with a tri-folding design.

And, in the face of so much speculation, Huawei has satisfied some of the curiosity of many by showing a preview of the device. Revealed in a post on the Chinese social network Weibo, the device promises to be a game-changer in the world of foldable smartphones. Although there are still several uncertainties surrounding the new device, the Mate XT seems to indicate the future direction of the mobile device market.

The teaser video: the first impression of the Huawei Mate XT

In the teaser released by Huawei, we see a man working in an old film editing office, putting together a piece that eventually turns into a scene on the beach.

During the video, the Mate XT is shown folded at various points and, in one scene, completely unfolded. Unfortunately, the video doesn’t show the unfolding process exactly, but it’s clear that it will have a larger central screen and two smaller ones that fold over it (each taking up half of the larger screen).

Still, the tri-fold design is undoubtedly a notable innovation, allowing the device to offer three screens. This advancement puts the Mate XT ahead of other foldable models on the market, which usually have one or two folds, such as Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Huawei Mate XT design: cameras and covers

An interesting detail shown in the video is the octagonal rear camera module, which appears to house at least three lenses and a sensor. This type of camera arrangement has already become standard among high-end smartphones, but the Mate XT still has a different design.

Another interesting point is the material used on the back of the device. Although it is not clear what the back cover is made of, it appears to be similar to leather, which could give the phone a premium and elegant touch. It is worth noting that the true composition of this material has not yet been confirmed.

The display configuration and foldable design also raises questions about the front camera. Other foldable smartphone models, such as the Galaxy Z Fold 6, have two front cameras: one on the cover display and one on the interior display. However, the Huawei Mate XT’s design could limit this setup, possibly offering only one camera on the outward-facing display, depending on how the phone folds.

In the video, it is also possible to notice that the smartphone appears to be very thin, especially when it is fully opened. It is expected to be 5 mm thick so that it becomes an easier device to carry and carry in your pocket.

What we don’t know yet: hardware and release

Despite the excitement surrounding the Mate XT, there is still a lot of unknown information. Huawei has not released any details about the device’s hardware, such as its processor, battery capacity, or other internal features. Furthermore, the exact launch date of the smartphone has not yet been confirmed, although Huawei has hinted that more information will be revealed at an event on September 10.

One important point is that the Huawei Mate XT will not be released in the United States due to the ongoing trade dispute between the country and China. Even in the UK, where the device will be available for purchase, users will not be able to access the Google Play Store or Google apps without using alternative methods, which could limit the acceptance of the device in Western markets.

There is still speculation that the company will sell the new smartphone in limited units, which means that its price will not be low at all.
