Huawei invests in a complete chain of semiconductors in China

One of the companies that can benefit the most from the tariff war between the United States and China, Huawei has very ambitious expansion plans. According to Financial Times, the company is investing in establishment of a complete semiconductor manufacturing chain to become self -sufficient.

The site states that the company has already started developing its own structure in the city of Guanlan, where it can manufacture semiconductors with the 7 nm lithography. The initiative would have emerged as a consequence of frustrations with the activities of SMIC (International Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation), which would not be able to provide components at the desired pace.

On site, Huawei intends to make steps ranging from processing materials and chemicals, manufacturing wafers and even the production of the equipment needed for these processes. Furthermore, steps such as design and manufacture of finished chips will also be concentrated in the megaestructure.

Huawei is making an unprecedented effort

The endeavor has the help of SMIC itself and SMEE (Shanghai Microelectronics Equipment), who lent some of their engineers. In addition to them, companies such as Sicarrier, Swaysure, Fujian Jinhua, Si’en, Pehgjin, PWX and PST are involved in areas ranging from inspection tools to the supply of electricity and thermal processors.

The main challenge faced by Huawei must be his Lack of access to solutions that allow you to work with lithographs less than 7 nm. Although she is already testing with new technologies, they are not yet advanced so that the company can completely cut off its dependence on external suppliers.
