HP this week unveiled the OmniBook Ultra 14, the most advanced model in its new line of notebooks. One notable change from the previously announced OmniBook X is the swap of the Snapdragon X Elite for a chip from the Ryzen AI 300 line.
In the announcement of the first new OmniBook, HP already showed how the naming scheme will work. Thus, it was already clear that the X would not be the top of the line. The OmniBook Ultra comes with options with Ryzen AI 300 with up to 55 TOPS (compared to 45 TOPS for the Snapdragon) and integrated Radeon 900M graphics.
The screen is the part where the Ultra model has the least differences compared to the X. It is the same 14” size with 2240 x 1400p resolution, with very slight changes in the chassis.
The connections are also almost identical, but with one important difference. We have two USB-C ports and one USB-A port, in addition to the 3.5mm analog port for headphones (P2). The novelty is that the OmniBook Ultra supports Thunderbolt 4. Thus, as the manufacturer confirmed to Tom’s Hardware, this is the very first consumer notebook from HP with an AMD processor and Thunderbolt 4 support.
To round off the specs released, we have a 68Wh battery, larger than the one found in the OmniBook X. HP promises up to 21 hours of non-stop video usage, and the MobileMark synthetic test put the estimate at 13 hours.
OmniBook Ultra 14 Pricing and Availability
HP has confirmed that its new OmniBook Ultra 14 will launch in early August, but has not revealed the exact date. The suggested price starts at $1,450, and will vary with memory configurations and processor version.
The manufacturer also commented on Windows AI. At launch, the notebook will not be a Copilot+ PC, which is no surprise. It uses Ryzen AI 300, and AMD had already revealed that it plans to have this feature in its processors by the end of the year. Since HP plans to make the Ultra available in August, Copilot+ will arrive later in updates.
Either way, it seems that AI hasn’t been the biggest draw for new notebooks anyway.
