The very high prices currently charged for memories are expected to continue rising next year, with no improvement expected in 2027 and with the possibility of going into 2028 without stabilizing. The information comes from WCCFTech sources, who estimate that the lack of components in the segment will not be resolved anytime soon.

The memory market is currently in an unprecedented situation, in which the extremely high demand caused by investments in AI has caused a shortage of components and inflated their prices to levels never seen before. A simple 16GB DDR5 memory module already costs over R$900, and the situation will get even worse.

The forecast is that 2026 will be the peak year for values, which affect DDR4 and DDR5 type DRAM memories, and also NAND modules used in SSDs and storage solutions. The shortage is expected to continue until the end of 2027, so prices should begin to normalize during the period, possibly arriving in 2028 still inflated.

PCPartPicker has organized graphs that clearly show memory price increases from 2024 to now:

Companies begin to speak out about memory shortages

In recent weeks we have seen more drastic impacts of shortages in the memory market. What caught the most attention was Micron, which surprised with the end of its Crucial brand of consumer memory products. The line was about to turn 30 years old and was completely discontinued.

Transcend also addressed the issue, warning its consumers that it has not received its NAND memory orders since October, with its suppliers Samsung and Sandisk constantly postponing shipments.

TeamGroup also spoke out on the matter, highlighting that all of its memory products are facing “widespread shortages”. The company, however, says it expects the “imbalance” between supply and demand to last “at least” until the first half of 2026.

It’s a forecast that seems more optimistic than WCCFTech’s sources, but the company is not betting that things will improve in the second half of the year, it just expects that they will continue like this, at least, for the next six months.
