GPD may launch new version of Win Max with AMD Strix Halo

GPD attracted attention in recent months by offering the world’s first gaming laptop equipped with Strix Halo processors, the Win 5. The company seems to have liked the result, because it is now talking about plans to bring AMD’s high-performance graphics APU to a Win Max series product as well.

The GPD Win 5 is a gaming handheld in the format that has become popular since the Steam Deck, offering what is essentially a mini PC with a screen and attached controls. It is available worldwide in options equipped with the Ryzen AI Max 385 and Ryzen AI Max+ 395, high-end processors from the AMD Strix Halo line.

Win Max devices, in turn, are more similar to small notebooks, with a very similar design, but still offering video game controls to make gaming easier. Therefore, it makes sense to bet on APUs with high graphics performance.

That’s why GPD would be considering launching a new version of Win Max, equipped only with the most powerful Strix Halo processor, the Ryzen AI Max+ 395.

At the moment it is difficult to measure the chances of a new Win Max with Strix Halo APU actually becoming a reality. But the speculation comes from GPD itself, so it shouldn’t be ignored.

Responding to a user’s post on its forum regarding the size of Win 5, GPD stated that “Win ​​Mini will not have a 395 version, but Win Max may come later.”

It’s a non-committal statement, but companies rarely talk about the possibility of new products in this way. So, unless costs prove to be an impossibility for a new version of Win Max with Ryzen AI Max+ 395, we bet our chips that this laptop should become a reality.
