Gigabyte’s new solution promises to reduce SSD temperatures by up to 12ºC

Last week Gigabyte presented its new X870 and B850 plates from the Aorus Stealth line, with hidden connectors. Now a new solution implemented in these models is drawing attention because the manufacturer says she has found a very simple way to reduce the operating temperature of M.2 SSDs by up to 12ºC.

The motherboard manufacturer calls its new EZ-Flex mechanism. Explaining simply, it is a flexible backplate mounted on two springs that goes under the SSD on its slot M.2. Thus, there is a list of advantages that the solution theoretically offers.

For starters, and most importantly, the springs ensure more pressure between the drive and the thermal PADs, helping in heat dissipation. The mechanical pressure applied constantly should help maintain contact more consistently with Heatsink. Of course, the final performance will vary depending on numerous conditions, but Gigabyte claims to have achieved a reduction of up to 12ºC at SSD temperature.

In addition, the flexible nature of the backplate and springs offers versatility to the slot, allowing us to adapt to common drives on one side (single-side) or double-sided.

Will Gigabyte implement new solution in more plates?

At the moment it is difficult to speculate if we will see EZ-Flex appears in more motherboard models. The solution made its debut on a X870 and a B850 at the same time, which already indicates that it will not be an exclusive mechanism for the most expensive components of the manufacturer.

However, it is noteworthy that even though chipset B850 is not the top of the AM5 sockets line, Aorus Stealth plans are still more advanced models of Gigabyte. So it may be that EZ-Flex will be reserved for plates just above intermediaries.

In addition, the success of the solution between users can also be decisive to make it an attractive in future products. Let’s wait and see the difference in SSD heat dissipation in home environments.
