The Gigabyte in Japan is taking the opportunity to promote itself on a small controversy involving the new PCIE fitting system on Asus motherboards called Q-Release. In a timelapse style video, Gigabyte shows a GPU being fitted and removed 100 times from one of its plates, without showing signs of wear.

It is an indirect clear against Asus, who had to pronounce against accusations that Q-Release could damage GPUs lightly because, according to some users, the system is not so simple to use and can curl the video card. Some of the tests have involved using Q-Release 60 times in a row, which is far from a common-use scenario for a GPU.

Therefore, in its defense, Asus has stated: “It is important to emphasize that any type of PCIE plaque will display signals of use and wear marks after 60 insertions and continuous removal.”

Not to mention Asus directly, Gigabyte seems to have accepted the bet. The company then shows 100 inserts and removals, without any wear on the GPU fitting.

What is the difference in gigabyte fitting and Q-Release?

ASUS’s new fitting system gets a name because it was an attempt by the company to make life easier for the user. With the video cards getting bigger and bigger, it can be difficult to reach the traditional button with PCIE lock spring to remove the GPU, so Q-Release gets rid of the button at once. The user only needs to make the right movement that the plaque theoretically is easily moved.

Gigabyte chose to keep the button, but put it in a more affordable place on the motherboard. Also, it is no longer a spring mechanism, the user squeezes once and the plate loose, so it needs to be removed and fitted again to lock.

Despite arguing that the properly used Q-release does not damage the plate, Asus promised a “revised” version of the system on future models.
