Reports of thermal gel allegedly “melting” and running on a 5080 RTX have made Gigabyte investigate the case and admit that it may have applied the product too much in some of its RTX 50. The company, however, emphasizes that the problem is only cosmetic and has no risk of damage to the plates.
The case began with a report by a South Korea user, accompanied by the image below. We can see that the thermal gel used to help dissipate the heat of a Gigabyte RTX 5080 Aorus Master drafted, until approaching the PIE connection. The initial fear is that he would have melted with the heat, and therefore drained.

The situation also raised suspicions that the plates could not have been tested for vertical use, which made the gel drain over time.
Gigabyte, however, says the problem is just too much product. “In some waves of initial production to the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 50 series, a slightly larger volume of gel has been applied to ensure sufficient thermal coverage,” the company said. They also say that the products are tested in all positions, so it was not the vertical use for themselves that made the gel drain.

Gigabyte says there is no danger of damage
Nvidia’s partner emphasizes that the problem is just a “cosmetic variation”, and that it has no risk of damage to the affected RTX plates. The company responds mainly to the concerns of melting, saying that thermal gel supports at least up to 150ºC before presenting any sign of liquefaction.

The Gigabyte however does not speak directly about the possibility of gel draining to the PCIE connection, something that seemed close to happening, and potentially harmful to the plate.
Also, although it is an aesthetic problem, it is very likely that it will make users “drawn” disgruntled, especially depending on the price of the product. The RTX 5080 Aorus Master of the image can be found by values from $ 1,600.
