Analysts estimate that the global gaming industry’s revenues will exceed US$300 billion by 2027. This number is mentioned in a report by the consulting firm Bain & Company. They project revenue growth of 9% each year, to $199 billion by 2022 and $307 billion by 2027.

The prospect of growth is seen in all related areas – from eSports to mobile gaming. The panorama of some titles like GTA VI quickly becoming an object of collective interest, surpassing major cinematic blockbusters, is also a trend that should continue.

Evidently, the GTA franchise tends to have a level of appeal that surpasses the average interest recorded in other titles, even due to the fact that it is not a game released all the time. Until the release of GTA 6, in 2025, there will be a 12-year gap between the title that tells the story of Trevor, Michael and Franklin and the next game focused on a couple, Lucia and Jason.

And this phenomenon of appeal is already being seen in some numbers. As our sister company, GameVicio, reports, In just seven months, the GTA 6 trailer has surpassed 200 million views.

Engagement will be increasingly important

According to Bain & Company, revenue growth is being driven by strong engagement among younger gamers, particularly those aged 13 to 17, who spend about 40% more time in video game environments than in other forms of media, including social media, music and TV.

The report notes that the growth of the gaming industry will be fueled by the heavy engagement of younger players and increased business activity in the sector. Success will depend directly on good franchise management, engagement and the ability to retain top talent.

This scenario will also make companies directly involved in games rethink some of their revenue sources, such as advertising. EA, for example, has already said that it aims to implement dynamic ads within its AAA titles. The company’s teams are already working internally on how to implement thoughtful advertising within the in-game experiences of some games.
