Galax decides to indicate GDDR6 memories in the box of its new RTX 4070

The market is close to receiving a new version of RTX 4070 cards, this time using GDDR6 memories instead of the GDDR6X of the original models. Taking advantage of the lack of a specific rule from NVIDIA, some AIB companies are choosing not to inform this change on the product boxes. Galax seemed to be one of them, but in the end it decided to print a sticker highlighting the type of memory used in its new cards.

Galax was one of the first to leak the new RTX 4070s before NVIDIA officially confirmed them. The images, however, showed no indication of the switch to GDDR6, which could only be noticed by diagnostic software.

Then we saw the appearance of several other products of this type, also without any indication of the type of memory used. At a certain point it seemed that this would be standard practice for these products, but some AIBs started to create stickers indicating GDDR6 on the box.

Now Galax has started sending its new RTX 4070s to specialized media to test the product. Hassan Mujtaba, from WCCFTech, received one and showed on social media that, in the end, the company chose to put a sticker on the box showing the type of memory.

Of course, sending out GDDR6-powered RTX 4070s to reviewers means we’ll soon have third-party testing of the cards. NVIDIA claims that performance will be “similar” between the original and new models, so it’ll be interesting to see what outsiders think of the cards.

Even though the performance is similar, the new versions of the RTX 4070 use less advanced memory and are arriving at similar – or even more expensive – prices. Therefore, the least manufacturers can do is at least be transparent about the type of memory being used in their products.
