It is only a matter of time before AI significantly reaches major projects in the gaming industry. This position is practically a consensus among those who directly participate in this market. And who better than Rockstarwith the long-awaited GTA 6to take an important step towards this?

Second Obbe Vermeij, in a statement to the SanInOPlay channela veteran developer who worked for 14 years at Rockstar, the company could bring innovative AI-based animation technology. Vermeij supports his position based on what he saw in the game’s first trailer, in particular the scene that shows what would be a beachfront, with a crowd performing different actions.

The developer points out that this section is incredible, and that it shows that Rockstar may be making important progress in relation to this part of the animation of the elements inserted in the game. A process that he says may have started, in a more rudimentary way, back in GTA IV, a game in which he participated in the development.

Even though he’s been away from Rockstar, his long tenure at the company has put him in touch with people who remain privy to what’s going on internally. Vermee says he’s heard that GTA 6 is actually using some pretty new technology related to animation and AI.

“I think it’s time for a revolution where animation is no longer manual, but based on AI and physics”. “If anyone is going to take that step, it will be Rockstar”he concludes.

GTA 6 will be released between September and December 2025

The tax report of Take-Two Interactive, company responsible for Rockstarreferring to the first quarter of the fiscal year 2024, confirmed the release window for GTA 6. The game will hit the market in the northern hemisphere autumn, so between September and December 2025.

Games made entirely by AI will arrive in less than 10 years

The presence of AI, still located at certain points in development, such as in animation, as mentioned by Vermee, could move towards a scenario in which games will be produced entirely by this type of technology.

In March, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang stated that games created entirely by AI will arrive in less than 10 years.

“I think we’re less than ten years away. Five years from now, you’re probably going to be in the middle where everything is changing in real time and everyone’s going to say, ‘Look, look at this, it’s really happening.’ And then you just have to do the math, are we two years into this, in ten years? We’re probably in year two of this. And then I would tell you it would be somewhere between the next five and ten years, somewhere in the middle. I think that’s the case,” the executive said.
