Intel’s bet to attract fabless manufacturers
During the event in vegas, CES 2026a Intel presented the chips Panther Lakethe first to use its new production process 18A.
This launch is seen as an important step towards company’s foundry divisionwhich seeks to gain the trust of other giants in the sector that do not have their own factories, such as the green giant: NVIDIA. The goal is to establish the Intel Foundry as a viable option to TSMC.
Pat Gelsinger was fundamental in the early development of the it’s 18Aincluding technologies such as PowerVia e RibbonFET to improve energy efficiency. He himself delivered the first units of Panther Lake has Lenovo.
In an interview, gelsinger stated that US government policy will be a decisive factor in attracting customers to the Intel foundry.
US policies considered key to Intel Foundry’s future
Asked about how to sign contracts with clients, gelsinger stated that government incentives and import tariffs can influence companies such as AMD e NVIDIA to consider the Intel.
Measures such as CHIPS Actalso known as Chip Lawand possible tariffs on foreign semiconductors are seen as incentives to bring production back to the United Statess. A TSMCa direct competitor of Taiwan, also made investments worth billions in the country.
gelsinger recognized that relocating supply chains is a slow process that will require time and ongoing effort.
O announcement at CES 2026 It’s a milestone, but the day-to-day execution to sell the American foundry’s capacity remains the main job, in the bigwig’s view.
